TalkBoard Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 22, 2026 · Applies to the TalkBoard desktop app, the TalkBoard service (API), and talkboard.ai

TalkBoard is made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). TalkBoard lets live-sound engineers control supported mixing consoles by typing or speaking commands, which an AI model turns into console commands. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

1. What we collect

CategoryExamplesSource
Account informationEmail address, a hashed password (we never see your password), account ID, plan (Free / Basic / Pro / Unlimited), sign-up and last sign-in datesYou, via sign-up (our authentication provider is Supabase)
Commands you send to the AIThe text or transcribed speech you send to TalkBoard's assistant (for example "mute channel 11"), the console type, the AI model used, token counts, and timestamps. Before storing, we automatically redact anything that looks like an email address, API key, or token. You, when you use the assistant
Console contextChannel names and other labels read from your connected console, sent to the AI so it can match "kick" to the right channel. Console IP addresses are used only on your local network to connect and are not stored by us.Your console, via the app
Macros you saveNamed command sequences you create, synced to your account so they follow you between computersYou
Billing informationSubscription status and Stripe customer ID. Card numbers are entered on and stored by Stripe — we never see or store them. You, via Stripe Checkout
Bug and diagnostic reportsThe text you choose to submit in a bug report, and basic diagnostic details (app version, console type) you choose to sendYou, only when you submit a report
Technical dataStandard server logs (IP address, request time) and rate-limit counters needed to run and protect the serviceAutomatically, when you use the service

What stays on your computer. Your app settings — including any of your own AI API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) if you add them — are stored locally on your device in the app's settings. Your own API keys are sent directly from your computer to that AI provider; they are never sent to or stored by us. Speech recognition runs on your device (macOS) or in the app's built-in speech engine (Windows); we do not receive audio recordings.

We do not use your commands or data to train AI models. We do not use analytics trackers or advertising SDKs, and no third parties collect information about your activity across other websites or apps through TalkBoard. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; TalkBoard is a professional tool for adults.

2. How we use it

3. Artificial intelligence and who we share data with

TalkBoard uses AI. When you send a command, the text you typed or spoke and the channel names from your console are sent to a third-party large-language-model provider, which returns the console commands the app sends to your console (or shows you for confirmation, if Show Mode is on). We share personal information only with the service providers below, only as needed to run TalkBoard, and under agreements that restrict how they may use it:

ProviderWhat they receiveWhy
OpenAIYour command text, console channel names, and (Pro, if enabled) text to be spoken aloudAI assistant and text-to-speech for the bundled plans. OpenAI's API terms state API data is not used to train its models.
Anthropic / GoogleYour command text and channel names — only if you choose to use your own API key for that providerOptional "bring your own key" AI
SupabaseAccount data, stored commands, macros, reportsAuthentication and database hosting
StripeEmail, subscription and payment detailsPayment processing and subscription management
CloudflareRequests to our service, rate-limit counters, encrypted private backupsHosting, security, and backups
GitHubA request from the app to check for new versionsApp updates and downloads

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users or our rights, or as part of a business transfer (we would notify you). We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising as those terms are defined under California law.

5. Your choices and rights

Residents of California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with consumer-privacy laws, and residents of the EU/UK, may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port their data and to object to certain processing. You can exercise them using the in-app tools above or by emailing us; we will verify the request via your account email and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If you are in the EU/UK, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you (running the service) and our legitimate interests (security, support, improvement). Our service is operated from the United States; by using it, your data is processed in the United States.

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our hosting providers. Access to stored data is limited to the service itself and the service operator for support and debugging. Secrets that look like API keys or tokens are redacted before commands are stored. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

7. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
